The SMB Development team members have participated in some of Chicago's most unique and exciting residential projects, including Lakeview Pointe, The Madison Club, Tuxedo Park, The Oak Club, The Pointe, The Mohawk Homes, The Residences of Central Station, The Embassy Club, The Prairie Homes of Dearborn Park, and their newest project: The Larrabee.

Founding partner Kenneth Sproul has been involved in many of Chicago’s most exciting and prominent developments. Ken has personally managed the construction of over 500 residences in the city of Chicago, including townhomes, condominium units and single family homes, most notably Mayor Daley’s home. Ken’s eye for detail, quality, and thoroughness are recognized from the purchase of the land until the last brick is laid. Ken worked as a Professional Engineer prior to entering the Chicago building market in the mid 1980’s. Ken uses his technical training and creative gifts to produce some of Chicago’s finest housing. When asked what he is doing Ken has always replied, “I am building America.” Ken realizes that the homes SMB builds will be places of refuge and comfort for families for many years, and that is very fulfilling for him.

Arthur Mitchell, SMB’s other founding partner, started rehabilitating Chicago Grey stones in the late 1980’s. The classic brick and lime stone construction has always caught Art’s eye. Traditional types of materials and designs continue to be part of the developments that SMB develops and builds. “ I believe that providing a traditional looking building with modern amenities allows a person to experience the past while moving forward to the future.” Art enjoys the construction process and being hands on during all phases of a development. Art continues to study the latest in construction processes, materials and techniques. Art not only visits SMB’s jobsites, but also visits other developer sites. One of the primary goals in visiting the different sites is so that SMB can improve the quality of the homes they build.

Together, Ken and Art use their experience and expertise to construct superior quality residences that bring value and pleasure.

Ken Sproul and Art Mitchel locate, develop and build all of their own projects. They are involved in each project from the acquisition of the land through the warranty of the last home. They general contract their own developments and manage the complete construction process. They do this to insure that all details are taken care of and that each home is built right. In doing so, SMB is able to deliver to their customers quality homes at a fair price.

Ken and Art are proud of each and every property that they develop. They build homes the way they would build them for themselves. In fact, Ken makes his home in one of SMB’s latest developments.
